The Great Sandy Strait Marine Park is a truly special place, a haven for an incredible array of wildlife. We’re constantly amazed by the diversity and beauty of the creatures we encounter, and we want to share some of the highlights with you!

Wildlife Wonders of the Great Sandy Strait Marine Park

We regularly experience unforgettable encounters with these amazing creatures:

Ocean Giants:

Humpback Whales:  During their migration, these gentle giants grace our waters, offering breath-taking displays. Watching them breach, tail-slap, and sing is an experience you won’t forget.

Minke Whales:  These smaller whales are inquisitive and playful, often delighting our passengers with their energetic presence.

Marine Marvels:

Turtles:  Graceful turtles are a common sight, gliding effortlessly through the water, a timeless symbol of the marine environment.

Dugongs: Keep your eyes peeled for these elusive gentle herbivores. They graze on seagrass beds, playing an important role in the ecosystem.

Dolphins:  Our playful dolphin friends are always a crowd-pleaser. They often accompany our boats, putting on a show with their acrobatics and energy.

Eagle Rays:  These majestic rays are a frequent sight, soaring through the water with their distinctive wing-like fins.

Pelicans: These charismatic birds are a common sight, gliding effortlessly above the water or resting on the sand.

Sea Eagles:  Spotting a sea eagle soaring overhead is a thrill. These magnificent birds are at the top of the food chain.

Dingo’s:  While we primarily focus on the marine environment, we sometimes spot dingo’s along the coastline. These wild dogs are a unique part of the Fraser Island ecosystem.
