Big Woody Hiking
This tour has it all! An exclusive experience with Salty Safaris starting with a thrilling boat ride departing Great Sandy Straits Marina and winding your way across to Big Woody island where you will land on Jeffries Beach. Quiet and secluded, this beach is the perfect location to start your scenic foreshore walk to Middle Bluff at the base of the historic Big Woody lighthouse trail. Upon arrival at the gas shed, there will be a short break before hiking up the hill to the lighthouse. At the top, you can feel the history behind this historic lighthouse and how vital it was in the settlement of Maryborough and the Fraser Coast region.
Please Note this tour needs a minimum of 6 people to go ahead.

Once everyone has taken a moment to rest and capture the scenery, you head back down the trail and along the ever-changing foreshore keeping an eye out for the diverse range of species that inhabit this intertidal zone and of course, don’t forget the elusive dugongs which are always a welcomed sight! In total, expect to walk approximately 6.20km on easy to medium terrain that is also suitable for seniors that are used to walking or keeping active. Back at the landing site, there is ample time to enjoy complimentary light morning tea and a swim or snorkel for the adventurous, with the onboard complimentary snorkelling gear.
This tour is a photographers dream with so much to see and capture. It is strongly encouraged to bring a good zoom lens as well as a drone with plenty of spare batteries to capture shots like the one to the right! Leaving Jeffries Beach, you get an exhillarating boat ride back along the foreshores of Big Woody Island (Tooliewah) rounding the Northern tip, before passing the culturally significant site of Round Island (Weenandin) where first contact was recorded between European settlers and traditional landowners. Taking a slow drive past, if the water is clear, you will be able to see the coral reef of Round Island from the surface, before you head back into the harbour.
